Carolyn "Judy" Campbell

Age 79, of Fredericton, NB, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 2, 2026, at Frederick Hall, Shannex. Born on October 28, 1946, in Saint John, NB, Judy was the daughter of the late Gordon and F. Monica Keirstead.

Judy grew up in Saint John, NB, where she excelled in school and music and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in music from Mount Allison University. By the time she had completed university, Judy had married her husband, the late John A. Campbell, and they began their family life in Halifax before moving to Ottawa and eventually settling for good in Fredericton, NB. While raising her two children, Judy worked as a music and preschool teacher before spending 20 years with the Province of New Brunswick culminating with her work with Historica and the organization of provincial history fairs for school children in New Brunswick. She was recognized in 2002 by the Governor General with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee Medal for this work.

Judy was a force to be reckoned with and reveled in keeping everyone on track and organized. She was the heart of her family and especially loved the time she spent with her family and beloved black Labrador Retrievers at her cottage along the St. John River. She was a long-time member of the choir at Forest Hill United Church, sang in the Fredericton Ladies Choir and volunteered for years with the Fredericton Figure Skating Club. For the past 25 years, Judy has faced health challenges with unparalleled strength and determination and, while managing her own health, she cared for her family with unwavering resilience.

In her later years, she was a proud member of her bridge club and would ensure that nothing stood in the way of her weekly attendance at bridge. She was a hero and inspiration to those close to her and her loss is felt profoundly by her family.

Judy is survived by her son, John (Karen) of Halifax and daughter, Angela of Ottawa, her grandchildren - Megan and Lauren of Halifax and Sarah and Jason of Ottawa, her sisters, B. Joan Guthrie of Wyoming, ON, and F. Marilyn Keirstead of Saint John, her brother, Gordon Keirstead (Kathy) of Calgary, as well as a niece, nephews and numerous cousins that she remained forever grateful for. She was predeceased by her parents, husband and brother-in-law, Ross Guthrie.

The family is incredibly grateful to her longtime friend, Claudia Barnett, whose dedication allowed us to stay regularly connected with our mother and to the nurses and staff of Frederick Hall who provided compassionate care to our mother over the past 6 years.

Cremation has already taken place and a celebration of Judy’s life will occur at a later date. Donations can be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
