Eileen passed away comfortably at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the age of 99 years.
Born on August 29, 1924, in Saint John, New Brunswick, to Ferris and Minnie (Durost) Reicker she moved to Cambridge-Narrows at the age of ten. After graduating high school at the top of her class, she joined the RCAF at age 18 where she trained in aerial photography. Following her discharge in 1945, she studied art at the Saint John Vocational School. Later she met Maurice Parker Wetmore who she married in June, 1949. They made their home in Fredericton and raised five children.
As a visual artist Eileen enjoyed painting, photography, hooking rugs, sewing, quilting, and crocheting, as well as tending to her gardens. She made the most delicious brown bread and we couldn’t wait to taste it hot from the oven! She was also a lifelong reader, with a keen interest in genealogy. Eileen was a member of Gibson Memorial United Church, and a life-time member of the Lower Saint Mary’s Womens’ Institute.
Eileen is survived by her children, Harvey (Barb), Ralph (Elaine), Ronald (Noreen), Norma (Ray), and Elsie (Greg), in addition to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her four brothers.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB or to a charity of your choice.
