“Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
The family of John Macoomb is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at the age of 84. Born in Ontario, John was the son of the late Florence (Tetley) Macoomb, and brother to Rick (Olive) Macoomb and the late Ann (Bill) McCormick.
At 17, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard the HMCS Bonaventure. He met his wife, Leona, while stationed in Halifax and after marrying, left the navy and joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force. They later moved to the Acadian Peninsula where he became an electrician and an active member of the IBEW Local 2166 until his retirement. He had a passion for the outdoors, loved gardening, boating, swimming and doing home projects. He was a generous and supportive father with a great sense of humour and especially loved to tease all of his grandkids.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Leona (Brideau); his children, Michelle (Andreas), Sheila, Norman (Elizabeth), Ann (Paul), Sandra (Benoit), Tanya, Sidney (Lenza), Leona (Greg), John Hubert (Soonjae), stepson Raymond (Alice); 20 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and also his much loved little terrier, Sandy.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. There will be no visitation, a private memorial will be held at a later date.
For those who wish, donations in John’s memory can be made to a charity of their choice
