Surrounded by family at home, Dwaine Kent Urquhart of Keswick Ridge passed away peacefully on his own terms after dealing with cancer. Amazing loving partner of Jennifer Wilkins; son of Ronald and Marie Urquhart of Pugwash NS; brother to Leslie Urquhart (Ron Jordan) and Brent Urquhart; uncle to Chase, Gracen, Holly and Kaylee of Hammonds Plains, NS; aunts, uncles and numerous cousins spread far and wide: too many to name but he loved you all even if he didn’t say it!
If you had a plumbing problem and went to the local hardware store on the Fredericton northside in the last 7 years, you may have dealt with Dwaine who attempted to help many customers ‘macgyver’ solutions to their problems. Thank you to all of his supportive co-workers for the laughs had over the years.
He spent his lunch hours at his mother in law Deanna Phillips home, a short distance from work, where for a little less than an hour, they would engage in Festivus style conversations, each believing that at the end, they had bested the other.
Dwaine and I were lucky enough to have several years battling each other most Friday nights around the 45’s table. Special shout out to his card partner Mike Arsenault, and my card partner, Carrie Beaumaster, for the shared times together that got us through the work week. When our ‘5th spare’ Lilah Arsenault joined our table 8 years ago, she made it so much better.
Special thank you to Dr Dickson for believing him; Dr Pawluk and Dr Boisvert; Dr Galvis and the DECH oncology unit; Dr Goodyear and Dr MacDonald, 3E and 4NW nurses, extra mural nurses and Dr Kelsey Cameron. Your support will never be forgotten.
As music often gives us the soundtrack to our lives over the years, growing up as teenagers in the 80’s provided us with a bevy of rock ballads to select from, often getting two lines in and then saying “okay, I’m good.” On the ‘last to the last’ day of Dwaine’s life, I asked him to sing me the whole chorus of his favorite, ‘angel eyes’; it was the most beautiful moment of our lives together.
Be kind to one another.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Dwaine, I worked with Dwaine at the Kent Fredericton North Store for a few years before relocating. He was such a kind, funny, smart guy. He was a man of many talents, if you had any questions about plumbing he was the guy to see. I’ve missed working with you. May you rest in peace and now no longer have to suffer. Will be thinking of the Family over these next couple days as they will surely be some of the toughest.

My deepest condolences to Dwaine’s family. He was a wonderful, caring man. And so quietly funny! I’m going to miss that. And I’m going to miss sharing whatever concert he had blasting in his car in the Kent parking lot on breaks, and bragging about his mother-in-law’s never ending supply of muffins to have with his Tim’s at morning meeting! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the whole family. I worked with Dwaine at Kent for a few years. He became a person that my husband would look for every time he came in to Kent. Dwaine new I was looking for a position designing houses. He came to work one day and handed me a piece of paper. It had a job listing on it. If it wasn’t for Dwaine I would not have the job I have today. I virtually thanked him for this everyday. Dwaine, you were a very special, kind person that always looked out for others. Please be at peace with your pups!!!

Dwaine was one of the first people I met when I started at Kent. He came right up to me and introduced himself and said if I needed help with anything. give him a call…. and I did … often. If he saw me on the floor doing returns or heading out back with cardboard or helping a customer, he was right there to lend a hand. He was a very likeable man, kind and smart with a great sense of humour and I enjoyed our little chats!! My sincere sympathy to Jen and. the family. Rest in peace Dwaine.
Laura Sherman says
I am so very saddened to hear of Dwaine’s passing. I worked with Dwaine at Kent and he was truly a kind, funny and intelligent man! He and I worked side by side in seasonal/plumbing teaching each other along the way. My fondest memory is when I brought my son Will to bring your child to work day. Dwaine seized the moment to teach Will a few things about plumbing and even let him help a customer himself! He was one of the good guys who you could have a genuine conversation with. Truly a great man that will be deeply missed! My heart goes out to your family. Rest easy my friend 🙁

So very sorry to hear of a beautiful life cut short. Dwaine was always the last neighborhood kid to come strolling over Harvey and Fran’s hill while everyone else had arrived at Ron and Marie’s. Never in a hurry and always time for a chat, even at a young age, it sounds like this quality stayed true – well into his adulthood. Danica and I were talking about the time he came to the house and asked if “Dolena would go outside and play badminton” with him! Ron, Marie, Leslie, Brent and Jenn – may time and beautiful memories sustain you during the rough days. Dwaine will forever live through each of you.
